The Palace International was started by Maurice and Caren Ochola. The two natives of Kenya came to the United States to attend universities where they met through a mutual friend. They settled in Durham, NC to start a family and eventually The Palace in 1989.The Palace became a big part of Durham lore through the 1990s not only offering renowned African cuisine but more notably offering a meeting ground for diverse communities and a world beat music scene.
The Vault is a private event hall to host your next event or party located beneath The Palace. It is 3000 square feet, and offers many seating options to best accommodate any type of function up to 120 sitting/240 standing.
On Sundays our dining room is also available for private events. It is 1300 square feet. Available for breakfast, lunch and dinner meetings as well as birthdays, seminars and anniversary parties. It accommodates 80 sitting/100 standing.
