About Events with Upper Shirley Vineyards
Whether it’s an annual meeting of corporate directors, club lecture, 250-person conference or birthday dinner for 25 close friends, Upper Shirley Vineyards offers an unforgettable country setting on the James River with superb amenities. Choose from a number of different event spaces, including our waterfront lawn, veranda, sophisticated tasting room and bar, or sunny banquet room. Our in-house culinary team, led by Executive Chef Carlisle Bannister, will craft a menu using fresh, seasonal ingredients that will bring the occasion to life.
Our outdoor soft seating package reserves the far right section of our back porch, including expansive river views, couches, chairs, tables, and a dedicated server for you and up to thirty guests with the possibility of adding more upon request. The Riverside Porch reservation is intended for parties to enjoy a “sip and mingle” style event with your selection of hors d’oeurves and beverages priced per person.
Your reservation also insures an alternative indoor seating option in the event of inclement weather.
Elegantly styled, with with cherry-oak floors, high ceilings, handcrafted southern-style tables and expansive views of the river and countryside, the Tasting Room is the ideal setting for small dinner parties or casual gatherings and includes access to the riverside porch and patio.

Our premier large event space, the Banquet Room is both elegantly expansive and vibrantly designed, and can host up to 350 guests for dinner and entertainment. Its high ceilings, red oak floors, heavenly-white interior and hanging light fixtures provides the ideal palate for event design. You and your guests will also have access to the back porch overlooking the river, accessible through two glass-paned double doors, which spills down southern-inn style steps to the large patio.
We offer exclusive use of our event spaces, including a bridal suite and groom’s den, ceremony lawn, stone patios, covered verandas, tasting room and banquet room.
Our in-house catering team is one of Virginia’s best. Executive Chef Carlisle Bannister, a fourth-generation restaurateur, has been directing high-end wedding catering in and around Richmond for the past 20 years. Chef Carlisle and his banquet captains, professional wait staff and bartenders work tirelessly to create seasonal menus and dishes that capture the spirit and significance of your special day.
