Rules and Regulations
Rodef Shalom is first and foremost a place of worship, study and fellowship; all uses of the building and grounds must be appropriate tot he character and purposes of the Temple. With that said, we do love to celebrate the important days if your life with you! We want to invite to feel at home and allow us to help you celebrate!
o All facility rentals include: use of our standard tables, chairs, dinnerware, glassware, flatware, and serving pieces. Any additional items can be arranged / ordered through a rental company at Renter’s expense.
o Some events may require additional services. All fees are based on four- hour increments. Prorated fees are not available for events using less than four hours.
A. Rental Times:
o Room rental fees are four hour minimum
o In deference to our neighbors, all events must conclude by 11 p.m. No exceptions.
o All rentals will conclude per the contracted time. Additional time cannot be extended during event
B. Safeguarding the Facilities:
o Rodef Shalom Congregation is a non-smoking facility
o Candles must be guarded by glass (hurricane lamps or tea lights) to avoid a fire hazard
o The following are not permitted:
Live animals including birds, fish, butterflies, etc.
Glitter or confetti, glass beads or similar items scattered on tables
Any decorations which are not freestanding including posters, decorations or lights affixed to the walls, ceilings, fixtures or furniture
Special effects without prior approval
Handling of thermostats and lights by anyone other than the custodial staff
Rearrangement of Temple furniture, fixtures or equipment
Removal of Rodef property
Live petals during wedding processions in Sanctuaries
Food or beverage in the Sanctuary, Levy Hall or the Chapel

Kitchen and Catering
We do have a preferred caterer, however, we do not want to limit your options in making your event special; you are welcome to use a caterer of your choice, but the caterer must provide a copy of its current Health Department Certification from their county of origin and proof of liability insurance of $1M. All caterers are responsible for cleaning all dishes, utensils, glassware, flatware, etc. used for event.
In the event of Alcohol:
Security: Rodef Shalom Congregation requires the host to pay for an off-duty police officer(s) during evening events of 100 or more guests and/or any time when alcohol is being served. This includes wine, beer, and / or a full bar. Rodef Shalom my also require an off duty police officer(s) during events without alcohol based on the number of attendees and the type of event. The fees* have been established by the City of Pittsburgh Police and are subject to change. Four-hour minimum; additional hours will be pro-rated.
