Since taking the Wine Director position with Barcelona in 2006, our wine list has served as a time-line following the evolution of my career and travels. I began by adding what were at-the-time “unfamiliar” Spanish wine appellations, like wines from Costers del Segre, after a trip to the tiny town of Vilosell. There I met Tomas Cusiné, the owner and sole employee of his winery, maker of the now acclaimed El Vilosell and Geol wines. I blew a tire circling the cobblestone streets looking for his winery, which happened to be a garage, and when we finally found each other he changed my tire in the pouring rain — needless to say his wines were added to the list immediately and have had great success ever since.
