Prom Dress After Prom: What to do With Your Dress

    May 23, 2013

Often times, many girls don't know what to do with their prom dress after they leave the event location. Prom dresses are usually too extravagant and formal to be worn to most occasions and usually, they sit in closets for many years after the special dance. There are many different things you can do with your old prom dress and luckily for you, we have them listed below:

    Alter It

If you chose to get a dress that is long and formal, but still want to enjoy the dress post-prom, consider getting it altered. Getting a shorter cut dress will instantly make it less formal and ready for everyday use. There are many types of cuts and alterations you can choose from, such as a high-low cut or removing embellishmenton the dress.

    Sell It

Sometimes, prom dresses, similarly to wedding dresses, are only meant to be worn once. If your prom dress was only meant to be seen at your prom venue, then save a little money and sell it to someone else for next year. This is also a great option if your prom dress is weighing on your wallet!

    Donate It

Prom dresses and prom in general are not cheap. Some people don't even go to prom solely because of the extreme cost of the event. If you do not plan on wearing your prom dress again or if it has just been sitting in your closet for the past year, consider giving it away to someone who needs it. There are many organizations such as Donate My Dress that take dress donations and distributes them to those in need. You will be giving someone a chance to look as amazing as you did and turn heads as they walk in the door.

    Keep It

They say that prom is an event we will remember for the rest of our lives. Whether or not you will be laughing at your prom dress in 10 years, it may be the perfect item to hold onto for a keepsake. You can either just keep it in your closet and reminisce from time to time, or you can even bust the dress out for holiday parties, themed parties, and more.

    DIY It

DIY culture is all the rage right now, and what better way to partake than getting creative with your prom dress? If your dress has a lot of color and embellishment, consider using your dress to make pillow covers. The colorful and decorative nature of a prom dress would be perfect for a decorative pillow, and you will still always hold the memory of prom, perhaps in a more useful form.
