[Pin Board]: DIY Mardi Gras Madness!

    January 29, 2013

Mardi Gras falls on Tuesday, February 12 this year, and the city of New Orleans is practically bursting with excitement – so much so, in fact, that they began celebrating ten days ago! Even if you can’t hop a flight to the Big Easy and land smack dab in the midst of the French Quarter craziness, Mardi Gras should never go uncelebrated, so why not plan your own incredible party? Putting together a Mardi Gras bash is as easy as can be (we’ve even done it for you with our latest Pinterest board), just follow a few simple guidelines:

Color and Theme: Mardi Gras is a holiday celebrating the coming of spring and new life. Throughout history, it’s also been linked to the start of Lent, and time has married the two themes, making the celebration what it is now – a celebration of life and debauchery. With this in mind, your party should stick to the traditional Mardi Gras elements. The colors purple, green, and gold should be incorporated in your decorations, as well as jesters, clowns, and masquerade masks.

Creole Cooking: The American Mardi Gras celebration, as we all know, takes places in New Orleans, Louisiana, so don’t be afraid to embrace the bayou culture with your party! The best way to do that is in the cooking, with delicious spicy Creole and Cajun dishes. Also, don’t forget to have some delicious signature cocktails for your guests to indulge, and plenty of sweets – they didn’t nickname this day “Fat Tuesday” for nothing!

Friends and Fun: Of course, the most important part of any party is the company you keep, and that can even include us! Share your photos from your Mardi Gras parties with us by using the tag #Eventup! And above all, have a great time – celebrate springtime, life, and everything else there is to raise a glass to. Happy Mardi Gras!
