Inspiration for Your Next Event from New York Fashion Week 2013

    September 12, 2013

With the whole New York city buzzing with excitement, it could only mean one thing: New York Fashion Week 2013! With every magazine editor, fashion guru, and socialite making the rounds at all the designer shows and vying for that very best seat, the rest of us get to kick back and enjoy the madness from afar.

Let's take a few pages from these major fashion houses and pump up the drama at our own events. Here are a few inspirations taken straight from New York Fashion Week 2013!

    Break free from the routine.
We all are accustomed to seeing weddings in traditional hotel banquets and company events in restaurant spaces, but why not try something new? The toast of NYFW included the fabulous Jason Wang and his refreshing choice of venue space. Rethink that traditional venue and throw a party à  la Jason Wang! Mix it up and try an urban event space for your next company event or a sleek San Francisco art gallery for a wedding.

    Host an Anna Wintour party.
How could we talk about New York Fashion Week without mentioning the queen of fashion herself, Anna Wintour? Famous for her signature bob and big, bold sunglasses, it was inevitable that she would become her own genre of themed parties.

Check out this hilarious and strangely powerful statement coming from a flash mob of Anna Wintour look-a-likes outside New York Fashion Week. Throw your own Anna Wintour bash and supply your party guests with short bob wigs and big sunglasses worthy of fashion royalty! Spread a few fashion magazines throughout the party, especially Vogue, and provide finger foods and classic cocktails to enjoy.

From the runway to your event.
What were some of your favorite runway shows of this New York Fashion Week? Was it Victoria Beckham's relaxed yet bright and patterned line of beautiful pieces?

Work your favorite patterns, prints, and shades into your next event and let your favorite runway show create an event just as fabulous! Use something as simple as your favorite dress as inspiration. For the fuchsia patterned dress above for example, work fuchsia orchids and lilies into center pieces and use plates and napkin rings with similar geometric patterns.

    Rewrite your guest list.
While the clothes, designers, and models took center stage at New York Fashion Week 2013, a few stars definitely stole the spotlight as well as some of our hearts.

Harper Beckham at her mommy's show and Aila Wang at her uncle's show definitely stole the spotlight! So rethink that guest list and expand it to include everyone you love. Whether that means allowing your guests to bring their beloved pets to your event or expanding a company event to include kids, the more is definitely merrier!
