DIY Cake Pops

    July 10, 2012

I'm sure you have noticed the trending appearance of cake pops in bakeries, magazines, and all over the internet lately. They have quickly become the hottest commodity in the dessert scene and they intend on staying. These delectable cake balls are not only delicious, but also easy to make. Follow this recipe from the Wedding Chicks to have moist and yummy cake pops in no time!

Step One: Bake your favorite cake mix, following the directions on the box. After baking the cake, allow it to cool completely for about an hour.

Step Two: Take the cake out of the pan and cut off the crust. With your fingers, crumble the cake into a large mixing bowl and mix in about 1 full can of your favorite frosting. After mixing in the frosting, roll the prepared cake and frosting mixture into small balls. Place them on a cookie sheet and put them in the freezer for approximately 30 minutes.

Step Three: While the cakepop balls are firming in the freezer, you can begin to melt your chocolate. For fun colors, use white chocolate and add food coloring. Place the chocolate in a microwavable container and microwave in 30 second increments, stirring between each increment until the chocolate is melted. Once the chocolate is melted, pour it into a container for dipping.

Step Four: Once you take the balls out of the freezer, place a lollipop stick into each ball. To do this you will dip the end of the lollipop stick into the chocolate and then into the ball. Dip the cakepop into the chocolate and take it out letting the excess chocolate drip off. Place the dipped cake balls onto a cookie sheet to dry.

If you're feeling ambitious, let your creative juices flow and try decorating your cake pops! You can either use decorating icings or something simple like sprinkles.

The best part about making these delicious treats is they're perfect for any event. Make them fun with bright colors for little kids, or keep them elegantly decorated for a more sophisticated get together!
