    4th of July Barbeque Recipes

    4th of July is coming up, which means it's time to start preparing for your barbeques! We've already covered some of our great venues for a 4th of July pool party. Whether you are hosting a 4th of July party in your own backyard or in a bigger event venue, it is important to carefully plan out your food dishes. Other than the standard barbeque recipes, it is a must to throw a few red, white, and blue themes into your drinks, main dishes, and desserts. Below are some barbeque recipes that will complete your 4th of July party!

    Herradura Red, White, and Blue

    4th of July isn't complete without the red, white, and blue. This blended cocktail recipe is perfect for both the holiday celebration and to sooth everyone in the summer sun. Using strawberries, lime, and blueberries, this blended drink stacks of these three blended flavors to resemble the United States flag. You can opt out of alcohol in the recipe and make a mocktail that every age can enjoy!

    Ingredients
    2 oz. Herradura Silver Tequila (more Herradura Silver Tequila drinks)
    1 1/2 oz. Lime Juice (more Lime Juice drinks)
    1 1/2 oz. Agave Nectar (more Agave Nectar drinks)
    4 Strawberries (more Strawberries drinks)
    12 Blueberries (more Blueberries drinks)

    Preparation


    1. Combine each set of ingredients in advance as you’ll want to blend these quickly one after another. Blend the ingredients of layer 3 and place in the base of the glass. Blend the ingredients of layer 2 and layer carefully over the first base. Blend the ingredients of layer 1 and layer carefully. Garnish with half a strawberry and 3 blueberries.

    Caprese Salad Kabobs

    Kabobs are the perfect appetizers for a barbeque. You can put any vegetable or meat that you and your guests would like. This kabob recipe calls for grape tomatoes, mozzarella balls, and basil. This is a healthy yet tasty treat that everyone will enjoy!

    Ingredients
    24 grape tomatoes
    12 cherry-size fresh mozzarella cheese balls
    24 fresh basil leaves
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar

    Preparation


    1. On each of 12 wooden appetizer skewers, alternately thread two tomatoes, one cheese ball and two basil leaves; place on a serving plate. In a small bowl, whisk the oil and vinegar; drizzle over kabobs just before serving. Yield: 12 kabobs.

    Barbecued Chicken

    A 4th of July barbeque would not be complete with out some sort of meat on the grill. Barbequed chicken is a fan favorite and pretty simple to make. Just follow this Barbeque Chicken recipe and your guests will be begging for seconds!

    Ingredients
    Brine:
    2 quarts water
    2 tablespoons kosher salt
    1/4 cup brown sugar
    2 garlic cloves, smashed with the side of a large knife
    4 sprigs fresh thyme
    6 chicken legs and thighs, still connected, bone in, skin on, about 10 ounces each

    The Ultimate Barbecue Sauce:
    1 slice bacon
    1 bunch fresh thyme
    Extra-virgin olive oil
    1/2 onion, chopped
    2 garlic cloves, chopped
    2 cups ketchup
    1/4 cup brown sugar
    1/4 cup molasses
    2 tablespoons red or white wine vinegar
    1 tablespoon dry mustard
    1 teaspoon ground cumin
    1 teaspoon paprika or smoked paprika if available
    Freshly ground black pepper


    1. For the brine, in a mixing bowl combine the water, salt, sugar, garlic, and thyme. Transfer the brine to a 2-gallon sized re-sealable plastic bag. Add the chicken, close the bag and refrigerate 2 hours (if you've only got 15 minutes, that's fine) to allow the salt and seasonings to penetrate the chicken.

    2. Meanwhile, make the sauce. Wrap the bacon around the bunch of thyme and tie with kitchen twine so you have a nice bundle. Heat about 2 tablespoons of oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the thyme and cook slowly 3 to 4 minutes to render the bacon fat and give the sauce a nice smoky taste. Add the onion and garlic and cook slowly without coloring for 5 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients, give the sauce a stir, and turn the heat down to low. Cook slowly for 20 minutes to meld the flavors. Once the sauce is done cooking, remove about 1 1/2 cups of the sauce and reserve for serving along side the chicken at the table. The rest of the barbecue sauce will be used for basing the legs.

    3. Preheat oven 375 degrees F.

    4. Preheat a grill pan or an outdoor gas or charcoal barbecue to a medium heat. Take a few paper towels and fold them several times to make a thick square. Blot a small amount of oil on the paper towel and carefully and quickly wipe the hot grates of the grill to make a nonstick surface. Take the chicken out of the brine, pat it dry on paper towels. Arrange the chicken pieces on the preheated grill and cook, turn once mid-way, and cook for a total of 10 minutes. Transfer the grill marked chicken to a cookie sheet and then place in the oven. Cook the chicken for 15 minutes, remove it from the oven and then brush liberally, coating every inch of the legs with the barbecue sauce and then return to the oven for 25 to 30 more minutes, basting the chicken for a second time half way through remaining cooking time. Serve with extra sauce.

    All-American Bacon Cheeseburger

    Nothing quite says 4th of July like an all-American burger. Burgers are notoriously American and are almost always a staple at a summer barbeque. Check out this bacon cheeseburger recipe for your barbeque and be sure to add little American flag toothpicks for decoration!

    Ingredients
    2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
    2 tablespoons ketchup
    1 garlic clove, minced
    1 teaspoon sugar
    1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    1 teaspoon steak sauce
    1/4 teaspoon cider vinegar
    1 pound ground beef
    4 slices sharp cheddar cheese
    4 hamburger buns, split and toasted
    8 cooked bacon strips
    Optional toppings: lettuce leaves and tomato, onion and pickle slices

    Preparation


    1. In a large bowl, combine the first seven ingredients. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. Shape into four patties.

    2. Grill burgers, covered, over medium heat or broil 3 in. from the heat for 4-7 minutes on each side or until a thermometer reads 160° and juices run clear. Top with cheese. Grill 1 minute longer or until cheese is melted. Serve on buns with bacon and toppings of your choice. Yield: 4 servings.

    Patriotic Berry Trifle

    Every barbeque needs a dessert and this one happens to be red, white, and blue! This Patriotic Berry Trifle is the perfect dessert item for a 4th of July party. The best part of this trifle, other than the amazing taste, is that it can feed many people and is very pleasing to the eye!

    Ingredients
    1/4 cup plus 2/3 cup sugar
    1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
    1/4 teaspoon almond extract
    1 premade angel food cake, cut into 1-inch slices
    1 pound cream cheese, at room temperature
    2 cups heavy cream, at room temperature
    2 pints blueberries
    2 pints strawberries, hulled and sliced

    Preparation


    1. Heat 1/4 cup sugar, the lemon juice and 1/4 cup water in a saucepan over medium-high heat, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. Remove from the heat and stir in the almond extract.

    2. Brush both sides of each slice of cake with the syrup. Cut the slices into 1-inch cubes.

    3. Beat the remaining 2/3 cup sugar and the cream cheese with a mixer on medium speed until smooth and light. Add the cream and beat on medium-high speed until smooth and the consistency of whipped cream.

    4. Arrange half of the cake cubes in the bottom of a 13-cup trifle dish. Sprinkle evenly with a layer of blueberries. Dollop half of the cream mixture over the blueberries and gently spread. Top with a layer of strawberries. Layer the remaining cake cubes on top of the strawberries, then sprinkle with more blueberries and top with the remaining cream mixture. Finish with the remaining strawberries and blueberries, arranging them in a decorative pattern. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour.
